Department and Item-Based Attributes in Nimbus RMS
In Nimbus RMS, you can enhance item management and reporting by attaching various tags or attributes to items. These attributes allow you to generate targeted reports based on specific classifications.
Nimbus RMS supports two types of attributes:
1. Department-Based Attributes
These attributes are defined for specific departments and apply only to the items within those departments. You can create different attribute sets for different departments based on your business needs.
Department-Based Attributes on the Item Definition Screen:
DB Attribute 1
DB Attribute 2
Item Group
Category
Subcategory
You can customize the captions for DB Attribute 1 and DB Attribute 2 from the System Configuration > Item tab by entering your preferred labels in the respective fields.
Example:
If you’re managing the Cosmetics department, you could rename:
DB Attribute 1 to Product Characteristics
DB Attribute 2 to Additional Information

Then, you could define values such as:
Product Characteristics: Paraben Free
Additional Information: SPF Included
Item Group: Lipsticks
Category: Makeup
Subcategory: Matte Lipsticks
This structure helps in creating detailed reports. For instance, you could easily track how many “SPF Included” items were sold in the Cosmetics department.
All department-based attributes will appear under Attributes Grp 1 on the Item Definition screen.
2. Item-Based Attributes
Item-based attributes are independent of departments and can be attached to any item across all departments. Nimbus RMS allows for seven item-based attributes.
Two captions — Brand and Calendar Season — are hardcoded.
You can assign custom captions to the remaining five attributes via System Configuration > Item tab.
Example Captions You Could Use:
Attribute 3: Demographics
Attribute 4: Ingredients
Attribute 5: Target Market
Attribute 6: Packaging Type
Attribute 7: Usage Frequency
Each caption can have multiple attribute values defined under it. All item-based attributes will appear on the Item Definition screen under Attribute Grp 2
These attribute systems allow for powerful filtering and reporting, making inventory management more streamlined and insightful.
